Juneteenth is a holiday that commemorates the day when the last slaves in the USA were set free. On June 19th, 1865, Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and read General Order No. 3, announcing the end of slavery. This came two years after President Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, which had declared all slaves in the Confederate States to be free. However, the news had not reached Texas until Granger's arrival.
